"Vincent van Gogh: A New Way of Seeing",
Nexo Digital - 2015

From an idea of our creative team back in 2014, Inside Painters is an immersive Virtual Reality voyage "inside" the most important paintings in the History of Art.

First instance of the project is Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, an enchanting and captivating masterpiece whose highly tactile canvas is perfectly suited for VR.

The experience is an Oculus Rift DK2 real-time free-roam content made with Unity3D and advanced texturing software to leverage the 8K+ resolution of the images grabbed from the canvas. The launch event also offered a custom made Arduino-based pressure sensitive platform to "walk" inside the painting.

Our initial idea was developed into a full-fledged VR experience in 2015, within the context of a partnership with film distributor Nexo Digital for the official launch of the movie "Vincent van Gogh: A New Way Of Seeing", under the patronage of the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam. The project obtained national news coverage.

"Van Gogh Alive", the exhibition
GRANDE Exhibitions, NinetyNine - 2017

The "Inside Painters: van Gogh" VR experience has been entirely reworked in 2017 by Oniride as a tech partner for the "Van Gogh Alive" exhibition in Rome, Palazzo degli Esami, produced by NinetyNine based on the format by GRANDE Exhibitions.

The exhibition is based on an entirely digital platform, leveraging maxi video-projections and multi-media experiences. The "Starry Night" VR content by Oniride is an additional, exclusive experience offered to visitors during dedicated events inside the exhibition space of Palazzo degli Esami (10, 17 and 24 March 2017).

The rework of the VR experience is a proper room-scale content for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift CV1, capable of further enhancing the visual quality of the textures and the reproduction of elements from the original canvas.
